Healthcare Insurance

As per January 1st, 2011, the Rijksdienst Caribisch Netherlands-unit Health Care Insurance Office, Programmadirectie Zorg en Jeugd Caribisch Nederland, ‘ZJCN’, implements the public healthcare insurance as regulated in the Healthcare Insurance Decree (Besluit Zorgverzekering BES). The healthcare insurance includes both medical care (‘cure’) as well as the long-term care (‘care’ formerly AVBZ).


All devices are reimbursed, based on the Healthcare Insurance Decree (besluit Zorgverzekering BES), which is applicable to the island of Bonaire, Saba and St.Eustatius.


The coverage of Auxiliaries (Medical Aids) includes the coverage of adequately at all time functional device within the scope and subject to the conditions of the Regulation.
The coverage of auxiliaries also includes modifications or repair there of except if this is a result of undeniable careless use.


Who is eligible?

Almost every lawful resident and/or employee of Bonaire, Saba and St.Eustatius, who are residing lawfully on the Dutch Caribbean territory and subsequently insured by virtue of Law, as well as those working lawfully on the Dutch Caribbean Territory, who are impaired in general activities of their daily life, due to certain diseases or aging and who are not able to move or transport independently.


General Procedure medical aids

Application can be made through the General Practitioner or the Medical Specialist.


You can discuss your need for a medical aid with the abovementioned doctors, and subsequently come to BESt Care Zorgwinkel, with your referral form, and place your order personally, by email or through the website application form. As Institutions, you can also place your order personally by email or website application form.


If necessary, clients can make an appointment with the occupational therapist of Best Care Zorgwinkel, for a (home) evaluation.


The Referral Form must be completed by the physician with a clear diagnosis and a clear request for a specific medical aid. On the form, all data must be clearly and fully completed along with a copy of the ID of the insured client.


The only exception are the application for a wheelchair, beds, special AD mattress, oxygen machines, nebulizers, miSEP and sleepapnea machines. For these items, there is an extra approval necessary of ZJCN, this can be obtained, by the General Practitioner.
